In the event of a spillage of Diesel Fuel or other pollution overboard, the following procedure should be adopted.

Stop the fuel or pollution into the sea.
Inform Personnel and vessels in the immediate vicinity that a spill has occured and a fire hazard may exist
Establish a zone wherein a fire watch can be maintained and ignition sources prevented
Inform the harbour authority and DERM hotline to enable them to intiate the appropriate response
Minimise the effect and spread of the spillage (Dispersants shall not be used without the permission of DERM)
Record all spillage and the action taken with times in the vessel log book

On completion of refueling and hose disconnected.
