	CommentsStand to 0700. Crew fit for duty. Prestart checks complete - refer to submitted form - no new issues flagged. Toolbox complete - refer to submitted form. Catering/Provisions/drinks onboard and adequate for day. Fresh water tank pressed and water dispensers filled. Tender fuel checked and ok. David Chengody on shore power duty - flash vessel 0820. Vessel ready for service 0830. All guests checked-in and confirmed (39) 0900. Forecast for Tuesday until midnight Winds-Easterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots south of Mackay during the afternoon and evening. Seas-Around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres offshore south of Mackay by early evening. Swell-Easterly below 1 metre. Weather-Partly cloudy. 95% chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm. Underway and making way 15mins after departure, port eng room looked a little smoky slowed vessel slightly then asked crew to ensure exhaust fan is running, confirmed running after opening engine room door and inspecting, no smoke noticed or reported at this time, eng temp 80degrees, oil pressure between 4-6 (normal operating pressure) boost pressure at normal level. 1-2minutes later blue smoke started discharging from port exhaust whilst still at just over idle speed then the port eng fire/smoke alarm started, slowed the vessel to idle RPM bare minimum steerage speed, checked the camera and saw more smoke appearing, then shut port main eng down and pulled strb into idle position as we were approaching and near to unsafe passage (a very narrow channel) it was best to wait and asses before continuing through as we now had a clear problem in the port eng room, it would have created close proximity to land situation going further ahead and the issue had increased severity giving cause to shut down and investigate thouroughly. All temps still at normal levels asked number 1 crew master 5, med3, Sophie to check eng room for causes. Report nothing found. I gave the watch to Daniel master 5, med 2, I then went to inspect as the vessels official engineer in charge, by the time I got to engine room the smoke disappeared,was within a few seconds of shutting down, all temperatures still under normal ranges. On my way through engine room to check the coolant pump after already checking exhaust Pom box and lines + main raw water impeller case temp to confirm raw water flow, exhaust and coolant systems all ok, found small amount of oil 2 drops which had leak beside engine bed on a stringer, followed the leak up to turbo, there appeared to be a clear separation between the elbow before the turbo and the turbo itself, a small spray had occurred from the connection of the turbo and the elbow to on top of the crank case covers and heat exchanger which was causing the internal eng room smoke, a very small amount of oil had also run down the turbo itself and burned on the side contributing to a smoky engine room, I came to the assumption that the turbo bearing had also possibly been damaged due to the amount of blue smoke that started to come out of the exhaust on port side before I shut down and inspected the eng room. It's assumed that the turbo was pushing the oil from the potentially damaged bearing within the turbo and out along the hot exhaust line burning it off leaving the blue smoke discharge from exhaust. Made announcement to guests that we will return to port due to technical issues/break down. Contacted management to inform. And organised sales marketing team to be awaiting our arrival back to port to address the guests. Had to start port motor to turn vessel around and once enough speed was achieved to have sufficient water flow around rudder to maintain steering on only one engine, the port main was then shut down again, run with only strb main to return to port, once in harbour I started port main again to use in only idle ranges staying away from turbo boost rpm levels, necessary to get the vessel safely along side tied to dock and secured safely. The mounting holes for the bracket designed to support the turbo and connecting piping, aren't in the right position it appears visually as the mount holes not lining up with mount fittings on piping and appears to have pulled the lines out of position causing the leak in the connection, which has also appeared to have damaged the bearings causing the blue smoke out of the exhaust.
