* Joined vessel 23/1/23
* Aft A/C unit # 5 is u/s due to issue with circuit breaker in AC distribution board, maintenance advised that all the A/C circuit breakers to be replaced
* New torch charger supplied to vessel 24/1/23 am able to view the unreadable engine readings and displays on both main engines once again, however the power switch to operate the torch has been playing up.at times
* Stbd main engine is vibrating at intermittent intervals @ cruise rpm 1750 during runs with noticeable exhaust flow characteristics (no smoke change or colour change of exhaust) When this fault occurs it is usually 5 minutes or more before it comes good. When the fault occurs it causes the engine load to increase by 25 % the fuel rate increases by 15% the boost increases about 12% and the temperature of engine increases by up to 4 degrees depending on how long the fault stays apparent due to extra load. The engine shows visual vibration also when the fault is apparent and the fault is occurring for approximately 50% of run time at cruise rpm @ 1750 . I joined vessel 8 days ago and has been apparent since my roster started , maintenance attended for sea trial 31/1/23 with diagnostic equipment. There is a 29 second video in the iPad from 30/9/22 when this fault was first observed
* The engine room fans used to have the function to be turned off if the ignition key was turned off, as crew were leaving them running a few years ago and they are 24v DC supplied and can flatten the batteries, however since the new ignition keys and barrels have been installed I believe, it is apparent that the engine room fans continue running with the ignition key off and need to be shut down with the off (red) buttons in the wheelhouse when the engines aren't running to ensure that batteries aren't being drained
* The stbd battery charger which has recently been replaced at the end of last year shuts down on thermal overload after engines have been running, it is very hot in the engine room and usually takes about 10-15 mins after engines being shut down for it to fire back up again
* The port main engine belt guard was broken when I joined the vessel, maintenance repaired and welded cracks and mounting lugs and replaced bolts and fitted back on engine 27/1/23
* The anchor has had a spacer washer fitted to gypsy drive so winch handle doesn't get caught on thread all ok 27/1/23
* 27/1/23 ConocoPhillips audit completed on vessel at CP3 1630-1800 hrs with Tim Tamani and observations were to label fuel breathers with Danger / flammable vapour stickers which was actioned 28/1/23 and also chart plotter electronic card update interval to be ascertained, he is also going to look into providing the vessels with an updated contacts list for APLNG and also our ConocoPhillips HSE induction booklet for support vessels , APLNG marine fauna observation booklet and APLNG support vessels management business booklets that are signed by crew and stored in the filing cabinet, it was also observed by the auditor that the passenger life jackets aren't fitted with lights on the canaipa whereas Brahminy Kite life jackets are fitted lights
* 28/1/23 The power on the dock was tripped on earth leakage when joining vessel 28/1/23 @ 0635 hrs, this was only recent as UPS was still active. The vessel was changed over to ships power and the earth leakage was tripping in the AC distribution board, it was ascertained that A/C breaker # 1 was causing the earth leakage to trip, which was then left isolated so we could provide the vessel with power to commence operations Please note that the aft A/C unit # 5 is u/s and is not switched on, the circuit breakers for all other A/C units are left on overnight which provides power to the control unit but the A/C units are not in operation overnight. The weather observations indicate we received 1.8 mm of rain @ 1800 hrs in the evening of 27/1/23 and the vessel was dry when joining @ 0635hrs. After changing to shore power @ CP3 @ 0840 hrs the wheelhouse a/c unit was now operating and online, with no further tripping of ELCB on vessel or shore power facility , please note on 2/2/23 we had severe thunderstorm whilst underway and the 4 a/c units that are operational, didn't trip any earth leakage with monsoonal downpour whilst in operation on pm running
* 30/1/23 maintenance conducted 250 + 500 services on port and stbd mains and gearboxes port Eng hrs 28991 stbd Eng hrs 27480
* 30/1/23 There is MRF # 8116 14/11/22 open in regards to vessel steering to be actioned by ships representative to close out. This fault is apparent not often but every day in my first week serving on this vessel this swing and past swings, discussed with fitters and awaiting parts hence not closing out, MRF # 5937 07/08/20 is still open in regard to port rudder indicator awaiting to be actioned and is relevant to MRF # 8116
* 30/1/23 Requested new revised policies for vessel and has been stated in flagged email received 30/1/23 that these don't need to be displayed onboard, awaiting approval to remove outdated policies on display and hard copies in filing cabinet from vessel as self audit assessment section states to be displayed? Also one of ConocoPhillips audit questions were they displayed, query sent to management
* 30/1/23 The light on the shorePower facility on dock SM08 is extinguished MRF in pontoon section , the bulb was replaced and all good 1/2/23
* 2/2/23 The port engine fire alarm faulted whilst underway and investigated and found smoke detector at rear of engine room had come loose from its mount, attempted to resecure unsuccessfully as it is broken and needs replacement, fault alarm isolated and mrf submitted , 4/2/23 i was advised by maintenance that I shouldn't have touched these sensors and ESA fire contractors have been tasked to inspect/repair/replace, maybe the light in the engine for fire alarm MRF may be repaired when ESA attend as well ?
* chemwatch app on ipad is not accessible have tried numerous times over the last few months to be made possible to access with no outcome , HSE manager has it in hand
* the stbd a/c unit drips condensation onto passenger seating mrf submitted 2/2/23 this was rejected 3/2/23
* chart correction 998(T)2023 Boyne River light buoy restored. Former notice 998(T)2020 is cancelled. Updated chart correction register 3/2/23 * 4/2/23 Have been supplied with bird scaring owl which is hung up on the aft deck in an attempt to scare off birds from pooing all over aft seating and deck, to be mounted at the end of each day's operations and stored away prior to vessel going into operation in the morning, I would suggest that each week as the vessel doesn't run on weekends that the side curtains be zipped close on the aft deck as I found both the press studs and the zippers both stiff and have freed up and these need to be used/operated regularly to prevent corrosion from making them u/s
* 4/2/23 Email sent requesting 21 new copies of passenger emergency cards to replace old tatty illegible ones onboard
* Just a request to all masters that any emails in the sent items box, please do not delete if I have sent these personally as they are quite often purposed and reviewed for any issues that may arise from the past or in the future , by all means feel free to delete any items you have sent cheers 👌
* 1 x crew pfd will need to swapped out for servicing sometime before the end of February
* 6/2/23 MRF submitted for port fire pump impellor runs warm to hot to the touch for a couple of minutes while it is pumping aerated water, once flow is established fully it comes cool , once system is primed it will operate correctly on demand if operated after a day or two duration of using it, however after a week of no use the same fault is apparent. MRF rejected 7/2/23
