Canaipa handover notes 16/3/21
New Genset onboard, uses about 4.5 lts per hour of diesel, it does have a few things to take note of. A check valve has been installed on the fuel feed line on the 9/3/21 as when it sat without use over the weekends it took 3 starts to get running on 1 occasion , I would say the fuel was slowly running back as it is plumbed to the Stbd fuel tank about 4 mts below lift pump. On several occasions it can run a bit rough and this seems to happen when it is online with minimal amps/load being used. By dropping the temps on the A/C units to get some load, it comes good, seems like it has a tiny bit of air in fuel and once loaded runs OK. Maintenance are aware, keep monitoring. The SMS doesn’t reflect new Genset operations in section 6 and 7 , however the fuel shut off is local on the upper deck fwd of the Genset. It doesn’t use any oil or coolant , however if required the oil is 15W/40 which is the same oil as the main engines. The coolant is the green type. The coolant cap does take a little bit of effort to secure so take care when securing after checking. On Canaipa IPAD I have added in the NOTES icon/section some information on Genset operation that Steve Bell passed on to myself. The box on the Genset has been coated with LANOX in an effort to prevent corrosion. Coal dust sticks to it but hoses off easy enough. The manuals for the old Deutz generator have been returned to maintenance, I have requested the new manuals but have not received as yet.
Main engines have been operated at 1650 rpm with a max of 1700 rpm as per maintenance request. The Stbd main is going through about 5 - 6 lts of oil per week as it leaks into the bilge and the absorbent pads need to be changed DAILY. “Please note that the Stbd main engine does not use, consume or leak any more oil when the dipstick reads to the full mark.” There is no need at all to run the engine below the low mark on the dipstick.
Void 2 Stbd accumulates water and 120 lts was removed on 6/3/21
Test and tagging completed 9/3/21
Fire systems serviced 27/2/21
First aid kit due 16/3/21, it is booked in by Cindy on the 18/3/21 if you could take it up when you go on break as per email
Sanitary bin calendar posted on inside of stores cupboard door last one changed out 9/3/21
Freight policy posted on outside of stores door
Mid fwd A/C unit is switched off at unit and the screen housing taped up, the unit works but we are still waiting on new screen as the one that was sourced wouldn’t fit the housing
Willie Ewins is on annual leave and is back in the office 22/3/21, please call duty operations manager if you have any enquiries
Main engines serviced 8/3/21, oil + filters + fuel filters
Maintenance and stores have new mobile contact numbers as per email
Vacuums are not to be used for sucking water as per safety flash on home page and emails until suitable ones are sourced, I have ordered a new one. Once received, please tag out old vacuums x 2 and place outside cage in stores cupboard at office.
Pest control attended the vessel at the slipway 9/3/21 as we have had some sort of vermin eating the paper our timetables are printed on, there is a bait placed in wheelhouse behind fridge and also under dash Stbd side and behind filing cabinet, Pest spray has knocked over many flies, but they are still around, a few cockroaches have been found upside down...
Restocked oil spill kit with missing items, please use oil pads from stores cupboard to leave oil spill kit stocked and ready
Please read flagged emails
COVID seating arrangements still in place, Canaipa good for 77 pax. however 1 x seat on aft deck is broken so max pax = 76 until seat replaced. Please advise APLNG security once seat is reinstated that max pax is back to 77
Mounted new fender at home berth that was missing
Stores have been arriving on Thursday sometimes, so if your desperate for something check out the stores locker at the office on Thursday as it may be there instead of Friday, stores were ordered on Monday for this week
Emergency battery bank changed out 15/3/21 , they were U/S tripping the charger out on thermal overload, battery box vent/ hose repaired so batteries breathe / vent outside, instead of out of cover under the dash
There is a roll of denso tape in the stores cupboard that I had intended to wrap all the mild steel bolts on the Genset cover attaching to base, to prevent corrosion, however being utilised on other vessels I didn’t get a chance to task or complete
Please take care when removing or attaching shorepower cable to and from vessel as seat covers on aft deck are being damaged from dragging the cable past/over them. I have swapped out the worst cover and put it at the back row where it is not so visible
Port rudder indicator is not accurate at all, Stbd rudder reads 5 degrees to starboard when both rudders midships, use the Stbd rudder indicator to see where rudders would be
When it rains, water leaks into the Stbd engine room down the exhaust pipe and accumulates in the fwd end of the bilge, just another task to mop it out of the bilge every day, have placed a catch tray under the drip in the engine room under air filter to attempt to catch the water, sometimes it works and other times not.
bye for now
