G'day Dan 'n' Kevvy,
I trust you're both keeping well and are well rested for the swing ahead.
A few things to be aware of:
1. All machinery and electrics are running 100% at time of handover. Main and Genset services recently completed - see Engineer's Log.
2. Charts updated to latest NTM.
3. See flagged emails.
4. Regarding tug Oxley and Barge / No Wash behind RG Tanna area. Andrew Joseph is the Skipper / Owner of Oxley, good fella and very approachable if you need to call him up. No washes in place from about 0700-1430 or 1600.
4. All the usual bits and pieces have been looked after on board including detailed wheelhouse, scrub down, scrub floors, vacuum seats, detail inside and out, toilets etc. etc. etc., had a good session in engine rooms to bring them back to acceptable and vacuumed out bilges. Please let me know of any issues or areas you think we can improve or that we missed for next time.
5. Full as possible of fuel and fresh, sullage almost empty.
6. No urgent stores. Check up in roof before ordering stores as there are some goods up there. Will be a few items coming this Thursday to replenish. Stores order in for a few items.
7. Fridge and microwave cleaned and disinfected.
9. All MPM up to date as at 23/4/19.
10. I haven't put any new marks on the hull this swing, suggest you take photos start and end of swing as I do to cover your backside.
11. Hand soap has been going off before it’s used therefore we have only been topping up to half way in new dispensers ordered a few swings back.
12. Please ensure all air conditioner units are switched off for a minimum of two minutes before changing from shore to ships power or vice versa.
13. If sullage gets over 25% and it’s rough the smell comes up the sinks so best to discharge in rough weather we have found.
14. Kemptons will be visiting to fix clears on stbd side of vessel, they require a new fitting. They advise that Windex is the best thing to clean them with apparently. Update - this has now been completed.
15. The SMS has a heap amendments for you to look over (Sections 6 and 7 are the crux) and sign the acknowledgement page.
16. House battery is to be left on at all times to power cameras for CCTV. I turn off everything else possible overnight as I am sure you will discover when you come aboard tomorrow morning (including engine room lights and anchor winch breaker and isolate nav light / VHF supply stbd side dash next to Radar Screen).
17. Until further notice we are completing the 1400 run for James Grant as per the schedule and break is now from 0845-1300hrs. Regarding this roster, I just have to say that it knocked Ryan and I a little more than we expected. The only thing we can fathom as the cause is that generally after 6-7 hours sleep overnight we didn't feel tired till 1130-1200 on break so on the old roster we used to be able to have a good 1 and a 1/2 hour sleep before returning to work at 1400 whereas now you start to feel tired and then it's time to go back to work... hope you guys find something that works for you to manage any fatigue you encounter.
18. New TV tuner under dash times out every 4 hours so if you turn it off and on after the 1610 run you will avert the risk of the TVs timing out for your safety DVD. Remote port side wheelhouse.
19. Updated Standards for Commercial Marine Activities Gladstone Harbour for your reading pleasure.
20. Leaks in fire pump face plates fixed.
21. Sanitary bins to go up on your first day back (24/4/19).
22. We had an incident 23/04/19, where we lost reverse in one of our buckets. A copy of my incident report is below:
START:
Summary of events:
(Some times estimated (E))
0439 - Prestart checks of vessel complete. All helm controls and instruments checked prior to departing berth and all okay. (Including Throttles, Mouse and Backup Controls checked daily)
0541 - "J1 STUCK UP" Jet Fault (Port side bucket) alarm on Hamilton Jet Unit indicating possible issue with sensor upon departure GL3 for 0540 run. Bucket function comfirmed okay on helm and repeater indicator. Alarm silenced and continued on run. This can, and has previously been caused by growth on rams requiring recalibration of bucket limits and presents no immideate issues to operations.
0550 - "REVSJ1 FDBCK" Jet Fault (Port side bucket) alarm on Hamilton Jet Unit abeam C1 marker during run. Alarm silenced as suspected relationship to above "J1 STUCK UP" alarm. Checked for helm and bucket function before making berth GL4 - all okay. Made berth and unloaded passengers.
0557 to 0608 - investigated fault, isolated engine batteries to complete reset, checked jet unit machinery and sensor physical position and connectors in port engine room; no obvious issues present, reenergised control curcut. Retested all helm controls and backup systems, checked out all okay.
0609 - Called Shore Based Engineer Brodie McMillan to discuss issues. Confirmed that there was an issue requiring recalibration but vessel appeared to be okay to operate and all control functions were operational (Throttles, Mouse and Backup Controls).
0620 - Departed GL4 with 12 passengers for GL3.
0631 - "REVSJ1 FDBCK" Jet Fault (Port side bucket) alarm on Hamilton Jet Unit occurred again transiting along inside of Clinton 4 berth in RG Tanna / Tug Base precinct. Tested for full control function prior to attempting berthing and found that Port side jet unit bucket was now stuck in full up / forward thrust position.
0636 - Discussed issue briefly with GPH Ryan Zwisler and advised I would be making berth with only the starboard engine as practiced in critical breakdown / steering loss drills. Made berth smoothly with nil issues and passengers unaware of fault.
0637 - Called Brodie McMillan and advised of issue. Brodie said he would head straight to the boat at GL3 with a replacement feedback sensor.
0638 - Called Willie Ewins, Operations Manager, to advise of breakdown and gain permission to utilise James Grant to cover our 0700 run (GL3-GL4) whilst fault was diagnosed and repaired. Liaised with Shane Wolff to make arrangments as appropriate.
0710 - Called Willie Ewins to advise that James Grant departed 0703 with passengers (Arrived 0717 at GL4) and that Brodie was onboard.
0650 to 0738 - Brodie McMillan onboard. Carried out fault diagnosis and testing on Port Jet unit. Replaced port jet unit bucket sensor.
0738 to 0814 - Sea trialled to Gatcombe Head via Auckland Channel and return to GL3. All systems fully operational (Including Throttles, Mouse and Backup Controls). No errors present and repeater indicator fully functional.
0815 - Brodie McMillan off vessel. Vessel returned to Marina via Service Wharf to take bunkers 0829-0832.
0845 - Vessel alongside Sealink Berth.
0846 - Shore power connected by R Zwisler.
0847 - R Zwisler off duty.
0900 - A Constance off vessel to complete incident report. Nil injuries or damage to vessel.
1035 - Called Willie Ewins to advise of incident report submitted and vessel is all okay for afternoon runs.
END
23. Spare Garbage Record Book in black folder. One nearly filled.
24. Fitted new ropes for securing gangways to vessel at all berthing locations. They just slip over the cleats for the lines, nice and easy and effective.
As always give me ahoy with any pressing questions. I'll be on Sunrise tomorrow if you need to chat.
Poor little boat finally got a slip so is performing much better than last time you had her!
Safe swing to you both, will try pop down for a cuppa one day.
Highest regards,
Tony (& Ryan).
