<p>Torresian Handover Notes 18/12/18 </p> <p>Greetings Ross and Tara / Crew,</p> <p>Trust this handover finds you well and rested after your off swing. This one is dedicated to Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace!</p> <p>I’d like to say that it has been a smooth, uneventful swing but it has not been so, therefore I’ll start from the beginning with a few bad things…</p> <ol> <li>Upon swing on morning inspection of the vessel various significant damages were noted on the port hull, the rubber fendering on the pontoon and along the port sponson. Photos of such were sent to the DPA and it was also noted in the prestart inspection documentation. What is most frustrating is that no incident report was submitted by the culprit and no one has owned up to it – so much for honour amongst thieves one might say.</li> <li>A shore power incident left us with no air conditioners for almost a week, a damage bill over $10,000- and there are ongoing issues with reliability to the time of writing these notes, namely the Wheelhouse air conditioner is indicating a fault with the Fan Motor. Maintenance has been advised and MRFs submitted regarding this latest fault. You can have a fan but no cooling currently; it’s liveable with a window open. UPDATE 0905, 18/12/18- Mick on board from Coastal Electrical and replaced Compressor Fan motor with a second hand one and tested okay! Mick has ordered a new fan that will be replacing the second hand one currently used in the interim. The incident report is on DataWeb for your reading. It also damaged our UPS, iPad charger and TV Tuner and these have also been replaced. Please note the TV Tuner does not seem to get as good reception as the old one, maybe due to the weather we’ve been having. May pay to try and retune at some stage to see if it improves. Please also note that it is not connected to UPS like old one and needs to be turned on when departing marina each departure.</li> <li>There are a plethora of issues with DataWeb; one would think that the team of IT specialists at Adelaide now overseeing DataWeb administration would be capable of maintaining the system reliably as Jake has been able to for 7 years but it just isn’t so. Key issues that will affect you immediately include: <ol style="list-style-type:lower-alpha"> <li>You cannot upload trip and engineering logs so these need to be photographed and emailed to Graeme, Cindy and Anne.</li> <li>There are consistent drop outs and issues with updating trip logs, you just have to do your best and hope that at home time the system is working and the cogs line up.</li> <li>Stores orders are off the planet to put it nicely. Submit them as usual but take a screenshot of your order and email to Kimmo and Willie for approval / requisition. One prime example is that somehow the system requested 7 boathooks even though we have 4 onboard and none were ordered, and this was somehow approved by Rob who was covering Willie… enjoy! They were doing a migration again today (18/12/18) so God almighty only knows what will be working and what won’t…!</li> </ol> </li> <li>Port main engine Wastegate Control Solenoid was replaced following a 0.5bar/half an atmosphere loss of boost, all is running fine again.</li> <li>There are a number of flagged emails you need to become acquainted with especially ones that will directly affect your break times. See iPad. Note all emails are now to the Sealink.com.au addresses for all vessels.</li> <li>The on board Tide Book will expire shortly, not sure if office has ordered you a new one. May wish to follow up.</li> <li>Damage was discovered on the dock hose at our bow in the marina, MRF submitted, have taped as a temporary fix.</li> <li>Have had no less than 5 different deckies this swing with Ryan off on sick leave and lucky to have Glenn Wilson for last week.</li> </ol> <p>Those are the current issues for you to be aware of, now for some positives…</p> <ol> <li>All the usual bits and pieces have been looked after on board including detailed wheelhouse, scrub down, scrub floors, vacuum seats, detail inside and out, toilets etc. etc. etc., had a good session in engine rooms to bring them back to acceptable and vacuumed out bilges. Fixed a small raw water leak on port exhaust and flushed salt from bilge. There was about 30L of salt water in port midships voids that have also been removed ashore and flushed and lanolined. Please let me know of any issues or areas you think we can improve or that we missed for next time.</li> <li>Full as possible of fuel and fresh, sullage empty.</li> <li>A few stores are running low but please see flagged email to Kimmo in sent items that shows what has been ordered.</li> <li>Had a bit of an audit on mooring lines at all our docking locations and replaced a number of lines and replaced tag lines on all springs / eyed lines.</li> <li>Replaced cracking and deteriorated spigot bilge hose with new one and tested A-OK.</li> <li>A few new NTM if you head towards Gatcombe but nothing truly to effect as at 18/12/18.</li> <li>Have printed and stuck up a Compass Bearing card to make Deviation Checks (daily) a bit easier and more thorough. One error on the top line which you’ll no doubt pick up. Have asked for a new one to be printed with correct figure of 299.2 degrees magnetic.</li> <li>A few updates to SMS, new Section 6 & 12 to be read and signed off on.</li> <li>Tidied up some wiring and mounting for port engine room camera and placed stickers for MOB sound signal on Emergency Procedures placards on vessel following IMCA Audit.</li> <li>Mains and gearboxes serviced 17/12/18, all levels fine, air, oil, fuel and separator filters replaced.</li> <li>No urgent MRFs or Stores.</li> <li>All machinery running with nil issues at handover.</li> <li>Looks like more than enough pages in logs to get you through Christmas and New Year period where office may be unattended.</li> <li>Replaced and repaired some lagging in engine rooms.</li> <li>Parachute flares replaced this swing.</li> <li>We inducted 2 new staff members as Deckhands on Torresian – Dana Bellini and Casey Bell. Both fairly ‘green’ but I would be happy to have them work with me on board following their inductions.</li> <li>Fridge and Microwave cleaned and disinfected.</li> <li>A new cover page for section 14 of SMS will be in pigeon hole to put in tomorrow.</li> <li>Updated emergency contact list.</li> <li>Shane Francis from Santos is in the process of sorting out WiFi issues for Santos’s router onboard and it is currently out of action if any passengers ask. See my email to Shane. He has the power supply currently for testing.</li> </ol> <p>And the most positive news of all – my first Christmas / New Year’s off in 5 years!
