Joined vessel 2/1/23
* Extract from my last handover notes as below as there is an MRF # 9229 submitted 20/12/23 stating loss of steering, which hasn't happened to myself only the indicator stays frozen on 1 side or the other at 20 degrees and can be rectified as below when I have encountered a fault with the steering
"15/11/23 rudder angle indicators have been changed out and the dimmer is the port side instrument lights switch for both indicators, 16/11/23 the port rudder indicator was stuck on 20 degrees to stbd , however both rudders were responding to all commands, I reset the circuit breaker "steering control" and the rudder indicator was working again , 18/11/23 the stbd rudder indicator was stuck on 20 degrees to stbd and once again resetting the circuit breaker, was/is the solution" As the rudder indicators had only been installed, I discussed with the fitters who said they will give Gavin a call from Modern Marine who was in attendance at installation?
The wheelhouse A/C has MRF # 9227 19/12/23 and has been occurring daily since I joined vessel , 4/1/24 No method found for myself of resetting breakers, turning off power outside at unit, letting it rest, changing functions or turning power off at control unit can be ascertained as the method to get it cooling... After 1 hour of pm operations after resetting everything numerous times, i got lucky when it cooled after turning the unit off and on in the wheelhouse until it fired up with cooling.. Same for the 5/1/24.... The last couple of days it hasn't taken as many times to fire up, if the fan is spinning on the centre unit outside you are in business ❄️ Have been advised A/C contractors don't start back this year until 8/1/24 , who attended apparently on the 9/1/24, not sure of the verdict?
* 3/1/24 Main engines had 250 hr service at engine hours port = 30257 stbd = 28742
* 3/1/24 E mail sent regarding max pax numbers clarification for APLNG contract differing from SMS numbers noted on whiteboard in wheelhouse with question mark
* 4/1/24 I have swapped out another passenger seat cover again on the aft deck where the shore power lead is being dragged around the corner of the backrest on the port row of centre seats and swapped it out for an aft row of seat covers. Could I suggest that In your toolbox talks to mention to crew to take care when dragging shore power lead on or off not to damage the vinyl seat covers, many thanks, also could you mention to crew (most are up to speed) that when changing over from ship to shore or vice versa, to ensure that all 5 air con circuit breakers are switched off before changing over on the AC distribution board and then brought back on after changing over. This prevents the control units being spiked as has happened many times in the past 👍
* Just a reminder for any casual masters that the Sullage guage is inaccurate and erratic and has been for years. So,, Pump sullage and bunker fresh water at the same time, The fresh water is to be filled to 50% only,,, if it is taken over 50% it leaks into the port void # 4 and then needs to removed from the bilge. The sullage is pumped no higher than 40% on the guage .When the fresh water reads 40% the Sullage level would be 10% 👍 When the fresh water reads 25% the Sullage would be 25% 👍 Pumping once a week and pumping lots of water into the Sullage tank while pumping sullage and adding Portasol to holding tank after pump out , stops the smell of sewerage wafting through the vessel and keeps the levels in check. 5/1/24 maintenance attended and have intentions of recalibrating guages in the near future, NOTE: On this day the sullage gauge reads 25% and the level in the tank upon inspection is well over half. Capacity of both fresh water tanks and sullage tanks is 500 lts. This information is not in the stability booklet or tank calibrations
When refuelling, the guages aren't very accurate, very poor, however, one thing you can count on is the genset runs off the stbd tank, so you can almost certainly expect the stbd fuel tank to take more fuel than the port tank, perusing the oil record book would also suggest this
* 4/1/24 flagged email from J Buckthorpe received reminding crew to report any late departures and other issues as soon as practicable to contacts that are listed on the screen above the chart table
* 5/1/24 port gearbox leak has been fixed by maintenance, still monitoring before closing out MRF
* 9/1/24 Test and tag completed for electrical appliances
* 9/1/24 Refuelled after last run on last day of swing and the stbd fuel guage was stuck at 938 lts when filling and remained stuck when I left the vessel , I would like to think it should read roughly 1200 lts when / if it comes good ? I have left the logbook for 10/1/24 with no figures hoping it comes good overnight 🤞
Hope the A/C in the wheelhouse gets sorted for you guys , it's no fun when it isn't happening, enjoy 😎
