* joined vessel 1/3/23
* 1/3/23 DVD player was u/s and was swapped out for new one by maintenance after am runs
Genset had 250 + 500 hr service @ 5029 hrs
2 x headlamps provided to vessel for crew to use, these are in the top draw of filing cabinet
* 1/3/23 + 2/3/23 Compass reading 8 degrees error on WNW + ESE headings whereas the error used to be nil. I have reversed the North/South poles of the corrector magnet that was placed by a licensed compass adjuster and the compass is back to reading nil or marginal error on these headings. I can only assume that when the joystick steering controller was replaced 8/2/23 that the magnet was reattached to the dash incorrectly when the compass was removed to replace joystick steering controller
* 2/3/23 Stbd main engine had new injectors fitted to engine and valve set completed, and after initial running for pm runs I haven't been able to fault the vibration, or extra fuel rate, boost rate, temperature or extra load rate , will continue to monitor and close MRF out after couple of days running without faulting . MRF closed out 3/3/23
* 2/3/23 New hardcopy publications of Port Procedures and shipping information + Standard for Commercial Marine Activities have been supplied to vessel and in filing cabinet and outdated publications returned to office
* 6/3/23 CP3 pontoon SW corner light post for pontoon structure has been damaged possibly by Pacific Conquest as it has red paint all over it. Take care when berthing or departing as the light structure is nearly flush with the line of the fenders, hazard card submitted to ConocoPhillips, see emails sent 7/3/23 This was repaired 9/3/23
* 7/3/23 memo received regarding turning off nav lights and electronic equipment see flagged email
* 8/3/23 Genset ECU would attempt to boot up and then go on the blink and attempt to reboot over and over again until the battery switched off , maintenance identified faulty ECU unit and replacement ordered. 9/3/23 ACES contractors and maintenance crew calibrated and fitted new start panel the old panel was at 5065 hrs and now the hour meter reads 0, maintenance have the records changed at their end. The genset is now operational with the exception of using the auto function. The genset is to be started up using the hand symbol only and shut down locally at genset. ACES will attend sometime in the near future to reinstall auto function correctly. The emergency stop button at the genset was also replaced 9/3/23 MRF for genset u/s closed out .... 10/3/23 The auto function has been reinstated and genset is now as per normal operation however the genset now shuts down after about 30 seconds when the auto button is switched off in the wheelhouse instead of 5 minutes
* 9/3/23 stbd fwd window bracket that secures main deck window closed is broken and MRF submitted for replacement Replacement catch fitted 20/3/23
* 10/3/23 The issue with the steering operating by itself occurred with over 10 degrees of rudder to stbd whilst enroute CP1 - CP3 for 0800 scheduled run. Incident report submitted. Maintenance attended with Gavin from Modern Marine and and replaced steering pot in stbd rudder indicator and fitted borrowed rudder indicator to port side, please disregard the port readings on indicator, rudders are aligned and still running off stbd indicator for rudder position for the interim until we get new rudder indicator for port side. MRF closed for steeering operating by itself 14/3/23 ........ 16/3/23 The STBD rudder indicator was reading 3-4 degrees to port when steaming at cruise speed in glass calm conditions with the vessel tracking dead straight, then jumped back to 0 degrees and the vessel still tracked dead straight , it then after about 30 seconds jumped back to 3-4 degrees to port with no course change to the vessel, will continue to monitor
* 13/3/23 The Mrf that was closed out for rainwater entering Port engine room hasn't been sorted, after good rainfall on Friday night I joined the vessel on 13/3/23 after serving on trojan for the weekend to find the bucket where the leak was identified to be apparent , overflowed and about 15 lts entered the port engine room, email sent to maintenance requesting if another mrf needs to be raised? , no response?
The stbd engine room flasher for fire alarm was working on 10/3/23 and 13/3/23 so I requested that mrf can be closed out but come Tuesday Prestart it wasn't working again, Wednesday 15/3/23 it was working again ? requested that the smoke sensor in the port engine room that is hanging on by a thread be attended to if contractors attend vessel.......16/3/23 ESA fire attended and put a bigger mounting screw to secure loose smoke sensor and replaced flasher for fire alarm in stbd engine room
Yearly checks of life jackets due today, have been working on these throughout the week prior and have 100% complete as of 17/3/23. Of note the vessel has 183 coastal life jackets onboard now as I have returned 2 ashore that were not up to specs. There is 1 extra jacket under each row of seats on the aft deck , total = 34 jackets for 29 seats, middle row of seats has 42 jackets, under each seat, port and stbd row of seating have 29 jackets each side for 30 seats as 1 seat where engine room access each side doesn't have a jacket under the seat, and there is 49 jackets in the forward racks. The safety plans state we have 178 jackets, the sms states 146 + 2 crew for operations, and the survey certificate states 166 pax + 3 crew ,,,,, so with 183 coastal life jackets and 2 x company provided pfd's we are covered with the differing compliments
* 14/3/23 First aid kit has been serviced and now due 20th June 2023 in calendar
We replaced the plastic clips that secure the access door for under the dash and take care when you open it as it 3 out of 4 clips were broken and it takes a little bit more effort to open now so if you pull it out square it comes out a bit easier
* 15/3/23 New passenger emergency safety cards provide to vessel , kept 6 onboard as spares and excess new cards returned to office and old cards sent to office as well
* 16/3/23 A/C contractors attended to replace card on aft A/C unit that is shutting down on fault code. After returning from braek @1500 hrs the aft A/C unit was working on shore power, when we changed to ships power it failed to come online with same fault code as mrf # 8249 3/1/23........17/3/21 aft A/C unit is online for pm operations @1450 hrs Nil operations for 18+19/3/23...Monday 20/3/23 The aft A/C shutdown during am operations on same fault code E6 noted in logs reset and shutdown again after couple of minutes , Aft A/C online for pm operations shutdown again after 3 hrs on same fault code
* The fuel guages were replaced when I was on break and when I returned to vessel @ 1500 hrs , read 1400 lts per side when there is only 1000lts each tank which is what the old fuel guages would suggest prior to removal. After pm operations both fuel guages read full @ 1400 lts each side , no movement at all, so I am confident we have enough fuel until Tuesday 21/3/23 when I refuel on my last day of swing. The vessel uses about 300 lts or more a day so if refuelled every 4 days of running it should bunker about 1300 lts depending on how many runs are done, take care when refuelling..........The fuel rate at pump 4 is the fastest I've seen it in 34 years of using the service wharf @ 220 lts per minute so if filling to 100% (gurgling at breather) is the only way to know what fuel is in the tanks, slow down fuel rate at 500 lts each side after 4 days of running....... 20/3/23 Maintenance attended and fuel guages instead of showing 100% full for last 3 operational days now show O% empty for pm operations , the fitters are working on it.
We refuelled vessel on swing off day 21/3/23 to 100% after am operations ..... We filled to 100% after 4 days of operations, so I estimated we would bunker approximately 1350 lts or more and resulted in 1405.08 lts. So I have come to the conclusion that when we were using the old fuel guages that would reach 80% then suddenly jump up to 100% and then settle back to 80% was in fact the tanks full to capacity at 100%
* 21/3/23 We filled to 500 lts each tank @ 200 litres per minute, then slowed rate to approximately 80 litres per minute and had a gurgling indication at the breather to stop bunkering fuel for each side. The fuel doesn't overflow or show any signs of overflowing at the breathers when the gurgle was noticed, so in conclusion with the tanks capacity @ 1400 lts each with 20 % minimum required in tanks we have 1120 usable each side if filled to 100% I do realise that we are to fill to 90% and once the gauges are reading correctly we will have a usable quantity of 980 lts per side and I would be confident that 5 days of operations could be maintained if required , however if we fill every 4 days of operations there is no problems to be encountered
* The slipway has the manuals for the genset and alternator, there is nothing on the vessel, I removed any old obsolete deutz manuals and alternator manuals and returned to slipway shortly after current genset was installed a couple of years ago, requested manuals be provided for vessel back then
* There are 2 x lifebuoy lights in the wheelhouse ready to be changed out for the 2 on the foredeck in April sometime when the old ones expire , I figure let the old ones sunbake for a bit as they are still operational
* 17/3/23 The genset wouldn't come online as it was shutting down on oil pressure sensor fault at startup, the sensor was replaced and genset back online for pm operations
* The gangway on the northern side of CP3 was brought ashore after am operations and maintenance welded plates along the sides so no persons feet could slip off the sides and returned to CP3 for pm operations
* 17/3/23 Replaced forward spring northern side of CP3 , have ordered more rope to restock vessel 20/3/23
* 21/3/23 Sullage pump not to be used until further notice see flagged email
