1 PURPOSE

To ensure that Sealink has a process to ensure safe work methodology for the berthing of Quandamooka at the GL2 and GL3 LinkSpans.

2 SCOPE

This SWP applies to all Quandamooka crew that are part of the berthing evolution.

5 REQUIREMENTS

5.1 The following process is to be followed when arriving at the GL2 and GL3 LinkSpan berths.

5.1.1 Establish and confirm communications on UHF radio with bridge and other crew prior to arrival.

5.1.2 Lower ramp onto link span in position to allow mooring lines to be secured to link span bollards. Wait for the vessel to settle and stop moving around from wash created from manoevure or wash from other vessels. Wait for direction from master before proceeding onto ramp door to attach mooring lines to the link span bollards

5.1.3 STARBOARD

  1. Catch and pull in heaving line with main mooring line attached.
  2. Place the eye of the main mooring line attached to the vessels bollards on the aft castle over the link span bollard first. 
  3. Place the eye of the safety line attached to the vessels door over the link span bollard last.

 

5.1.4 PORT

  1. Catch and pull in heaving line with main mooring line attached.
  2. Place the eye of the main mooring line attached to the vessels bollards on the aft castle over the link span bollard first.
  3. Place the eye of the safety line attached to the vessels door over the link span bollard last.
  4. Attach additional mooring lines as required to secure vessels bow or stern alongside berth.

5.1.5 Inform master when all ramp door lines are attached and secure. Master to position vessel to tension mooring lines and allow for door angle to reduce to an acceptable angle

5.2 The following process is to be followed when departingat the GL2 and GL3 LinkSpan berths.

5.2.1 Establish and confirm communications on UHF radio with bridge and other crew prior to departure.

5.2.2 Mate on link span to stand clear in the centre of the  link span and inform the master over the UHF when he is ready to raise the vessels door and move the vessel astern to slacken mooring lines

5.2.3 Master to confirm with Mate via UHF before executing the manoeuvre and  raise the door slightly, moving astern and lowering the door back onto the link span when adequate slack is obtained for the mooring lines to be removed

5.2.4 PORT

Mate to remove the safety line first, then remove the main mooring line and feed the main mooring line and heaving line back to the crewman on the port castle before proceeding to the starboard side of the link span to remove the starboard mooring lines

5.2.5 STARBOARD

Mate to remove the safety line first, then remove the main mooring line and feed the main mooring line and heaving line back to the crewman on the starboard castle before proceeding back on board

5.2.6 Once back on board the mate is to inform the master when all mooring lines are off and the vessel is ready to depart

5.2.7 The master is to confirm this with the mate and visually check all mooring lines are removed from the link span bollards before raising the door.

5.2.8 Master to raise the door into the raised position and wait for the  locking pins to be inserted before departing the link span
