Fitness for Work Policy

SeaLink Marine and Tourism is committed to ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for all personnel and the prevention of work-related injuries and illnesses.

We aim to provide and maintain a safe working environment through a work health and safety management system and safe systems of work in compliance with relevant legislation.

In line with our key focus and commitment to health and safety, SeaLink Marine and Tourism provides a strong focus on physical and mental health so employees ensure they remain fit for work at all times.

To achieve this, SeaLink Marine and Tourism is committed to:

  • Preventing harm and inappropriate behavior that may be caused by the use of alcohol and other drugs in the workplace.
  • Developing processes and tools to manage the potential effects of fatigue on employees in line with regulatory and contractual obligations.
  • Providing appropriate health and fitness standards for entering and re-entering the workplace.
  • Promoting physical and mental health so employees can carry out work safely.
  • Encouraging behavior and attitudes that are conducive to a safe and healthy working environment.

Employees must ensure they present fit for work at the commencement of, and during their shift, and if not fit for work notify their Manager to ensure the appropriate risk mitigation can be implemented.

SeaLink Marine and Tourism reserves the right to request an employee, who it believes is unable to safely perform their duties because of fatigue or any other form of impairment or incapacity, to attend a medical practitioner of the company’s choice for a fitness for work assessment.

It is the responsibility of managers, supervisors and employees to adhere to this Policy and the underpinning policies and procedures, to ensure they are fit to perform their duties and to not place their own health, safety or welfare, or that of others, at risk.

This Policy applies to all SeaLink Marine and Tourism workplaces and will be reviewed annually in light of developments, including changes to legislation and our understanding of best practice.

This Policy will be made available to interested parties on request.
